Josh Malone, Philanthropist and Inventor Advocate Announces New Scholarship for Enthusiastic Intellectual Property Law Students.

INSPIRING THE NEXT GENERATION.

Josh Malone is looking to inspire the next generation of inventors, lawyers, judges, patent examiners and IP professionals. Mr. Malone is encouraging students to attend a real-life PTAB hearing to take part in this $1,500 scholarship opportunity.

WHEN

Friday 25th October, 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM EDT the PTAB is holding trial numbers: IPR2018-01129 and IPR2018-001130 in the Maryland Ballroom BD at the at the Gaylord Resort at National Harbor (near Washington, D.C.).

THE TRIAL. THE OPPORTUNITY.

The USPTO has partnered with the American Intellectual Property Law Association (AIPLA) enabling the public to attend this unique trial.

This opportunity is open to all aspiring students who want to observe the judicial system and the processes involved in a patent appeal trial setting.

Students looking to win the scholarship are encouraged to attend the PTAB hearing and write an amicus style brief, sharing their thoughts on the process, the final judgement, whether or not they agree with the decisions/arguments made and if they feel that the law protects independent inventors.

PLEASE RESPECT THE FORMAL SETTINGS.

Interested participants, will be able to attend the meeting, however, they must respect the rules of court proceedings, the most important rules of etiquette being:

  1. Formal Courtroom attire (no jeans, sneakers or t-shirts)
  2. NO interruptions or leaving/entering the room during the proceedings
  3. No food or drink, just water
  4. Turn off cell phones and electronic devises

Students will be able to meet Josh Malone and other inventors after the hearing, to learn first-hand about their experiences with the USPTO.

 

MORE ABOUT THIS RARE OPPORTUNITY

Students will be offered $50 for travel expenses and other ancillaries, to afford them the chance of attending this unique hearing.

Students must visit our EVENTBRITE event-page to REGISTER. Once registered, students will receive a registration notification about the event via email. We request that you present this on arrival as proof of attendance.

SCHOLARSHIP PAPER SUBMISSION

Final Scholarship Papers should be sent to scholarship@joshtheballoonguy.org 

Please put your “Scholarship: Paper Submission” in the title.

Entries must be sent by the closing date of November 23rd, 2019 to be eligible.

The distinguished panel judging the papers includes notable inventors and other prominent IP professionals.
